A recently renovated (Aug 2023) studio set on the dunes at majestic Emu Bay. Only a few steps and you are on the pristine white sands where you can enjoy a beach walk, swim or try your luck at fishing.
Rumah Pantai is set amongst native vegetation and is home to penguins, assorted bird life, goannas and the occasional koala.
The outdoor deck is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the beach activities during the day or enjoy the moonlight reflecting over the water by night.

One of only a few absolute beachfront properties at Emu Bay “Rumah Pantai” ( beach house in Indonesian ) is the last standing example of the original Beach Shacks built by the farmers on Kangaroo Island over 50 years ago. Fully renovated it has been designed to encompass it’s natural surroundings and create tranquillity much as is found in Bali.
Nestled in the trees the cottage is protected from wind most times and the views are of sea, beach and bush.
Penguins nest under the front deck, birds are attracted by the bird bath and surrounding vegetation and a goanna lives close by and visits (They are not timid but will not attack you! ) The occasional koala will camp out for a night in either the back or front trees. Echidnas dig around, especially in Autumn and Winter, in the surrounding bushland.
The private rock path through the trees allows direct access to the 5 km long beach which is ideal for long walks. People also drive their cars along the beach to find their own private area for swimming or picnics.
The jetty and boat ramp has its group of resident pelicans. Fishing off the jetty or beach are popular activities. There is a children’s playground close.
Only 15 minutes to the main township of Kingscote, Emu Bay is an ideal base for your visit to Kangaroo Island.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellation more than 30 days of arrival – FULL Refund.
Cancellation between 8 – 30 days of arrival – 50 % of total cost.
Cancellation 7 and less days before arrival – 75% of total cost.
Cancellation within 24 hours of arrival – 100% of total cost.
We recommend purchasing travel insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances.
Please note that severe winter weather can occasionally lead to ferry cancellations. Our standard cancellation policy applies to all guests, regardless of whether you arrive by plane or ferry. Refunds cannot be provided for unused services or early departures. However, we assess each situation on a case-by-case basis.
